Elizabeth Woodville School in the Record Books!

Back in October, Year 7 students at Elizabeth Woodville School took part in an attempt to break the World Record for the largest poetry lesson. We have now received confirmation that they were successful!

Elizabeth Woodville School will now be officially listed in the Guinness Book of World Record and the students involved can proudly say they were part of a record-breaking achievement.

Kelly Mitchell, Director of Learning for English at Elizabeth Woodville's Roade Campus, who entered the schools Year 7 students into the event says:

"Back in September I heard about the World Record attempt and entered our Year 7 students. Laura Mucha was aiming to run the largest poetry lesson (online) and we excitedly took part in the run up to the attempt by running poetry planning lessons with Year 7, writing poems about ‘what counts’ to us. Some suggestions in the EWS poems were family, friends, teachers and feeling loved. There were also funny suggestions such as how many marshmallows you can fit into your mouth (which got a mention on the actual day and is in the poem!)

The build up was featured on the BBC, which can be viewed here:

The day - October 3rd - came and it was great fun joining the lesson, where we all took part in the writing of the final poem.  Gemma Harte - head of year 7 - was a great support on the day along with a number of other staff.

The final group poem can be found at this link: https://childrens.poetryarchive.org/poem/what-counts/"

A huge well done to everyone involved.
