We are delighted to announce that The CE Academy in Northamptonshire has received a ‘Good’ rating in all categories following its latest Ofsted inspection.
The Academy provides alternative education for pupils who have experienced disrupted learning journeys, offering a nurturing and inclusive environment for young people who would otherwise attend mainstream or special schools.
The dedicated staff team places pupils at the heart of everything they do, providing immediate reassurance to those who feel anxious about their future. The Ofsted inspector commended the strong pastoral ethos of the school, noting, “The staff invest time in building strong, supportive, and trusting relationships with each pupil. The school ensures that every pupil feels heard and understood. Staff guide pupils back into learning, helping them to settle in quickly and confidently.”
CE Academy’s motto, “Freedom to choose a different future,” was selected by the pupils and reflects the school’s belief that every young person deserves access to high-quality education.
The Academy promotes both the right to fail and the freedom to succeed, fostering a culture rooted in fairness, equality, and mutual respect. The school’s ambitious curriculum is tailored to meet individual needs. The inspector noted “Staff have a clear understanding of each pupil’s reading ability, ensuring that those who struggle receive targeted support to build fluency and confidence. Learning is thoughtfully designed to promote success, with Key Stage 3 pupils studying content aligned with the national curriculum and Key Stage 4 pupils accessing a broad range of subjects, including English, mathematics, science, catering, and hair and beauty”. Through partnerships with external providers, pupils can also explore vocational options such as motor mechanics and construction, supporting their aspirations and future pathways.
Headteacher James Thomas expressed: “I’m proud to share that Ofsted have validated the hard work and commitment shown by our whole staff team. Their dedication to supporting and guiding young people is at the heart of CE Academy. It also recognises the significant progress and potential of our young people. I’m so pleased for everyone involved”.
The inspector highlighted the school’s effective systems for identifying and supporting additional needs, including Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). “The school enables staff to share individual pupils’ successes, as well as areas where further adaptations are needed to help pupils learn effectively. Pupils learn to manage their behaviour well and feel happy, valued, and safe.”
The report praised CE Academy’s high expectations and commitment to preparing pupils for life beyond school. “Pupils achieve well from their various starting points and are suitably prepared for their next steps, whether that means moving back into a mainstream secondary school or pursuing another destination that is right for them.” Careers, education, and work experience are integral parts of the school’s offerings. Regular careers lessons and engagement with post-16 providers ensure that every pupil is well-informed and supported in planning their next steps. CE Academy takes great pride in ensuring that every Year 11 leaver has a clear destination.
The CE Academy remains dedicated to ensuring that all pupils are at the heart of everything we do, giving them the freedom to choose a different future.
Jamie Clarke, CEO of Tove Learning Trust, said: “I am thoroughly delighted that Ofsted has recognised the significant strengths at CE. The academy provides very strong support and education to all its pupils through its dedicated and expert staff. This is an excellent achievement.”
